US Census 2010
Portrait of America

10 simple questions, a million things in common.

The US Census campaign had to reach every single person in America. Wow. Our emphasis was on "hard to count" populations — certain minority groups, immigrants, and anti-government types. We had to convince them that the government would not use their information against them, and that filling out the Census actually does provide positive benefits. So we took a snapshot of 3 different intersections in America and told the stories of everyday people on those streets, showing that despite our differences, we share common interests that the 10 simple, anonymous questions on the Census can help address.

Where America intersects.

We took snapshots of 3 intersections in America — in an urban city, a suburban Main Street, and a rural crossroads. There, we interviewed a long list of colorful characters, from taxidermists to green roofers to restauranteurs, then hosted their stories online.
